Scarlett Johansson (born November 22 1984 New York City New York, U.S.) American actress and singer whose acting versatility earned her praise in various genres ranging from period drama to thriller and action adventure. Johansson is the daughter and wife of an architect, and producer, was born within New York City. Hunter, her twin, and Johansson both were the youngest out of four children. As a toddler, she developed an interest in acting. She started auditioning for commercials around the age of seven. She joined the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute shortly after and attended at the Professional Children's School, Manhattan to continue her training. When she was eight, she performed alongside Ethan Hawke in the Off-Broadway production Sophistry when she was nine. At that age, she made her feature debut with Rob Reiner's North (1994). Johansson made her debut in Just Cause (1996), however the film Manny & Lo 1996 that made her famous. The film tells the story of two orphaned girls who are leaving. Next, she received critical praise for portraying one of the teens who sustained injuries that caused her to be disfigured In The Horse Whisperer (1998). In 2001, she gained attention with the film Ghost World (2001) as the cynical outcast Rebecca.
